“The future of women’s health will be written by those who understand that data isn’t just an asset class. It’s a form of power.” How do we ensure that this power sits with the people whose data it is (also the women whose health it concerns, not only the men providing the capital)?

Such an important question, Dirkjan. I really think governance is the next frontier of inclusion and the tool we need to design ownership models that include the women whose biology underpins the data not just those financing the systems that capture it.

I agree, Maryann. Reading your article got me thinking about the role of men in shaping this conversation (from a place of care, not from a place of power). They reason this matters is that the founders of Holigic were men. So the wealth coming from Women’s Health is still flowing to men.

You are right. Historically, many women’s health companies were founded or financed by men, which shaped both ownership and narrative. What’s changing now is who’s building next: the wave of women-led ventures and funds reclaiming both the science and the equity.
