Weekly Women’s Health Investing Roundup #2
Welcome to this week’s issue of Notes to Selfe Publication where we curate insights, trends, and investment opportunities relating to The Future of Women’s Health.
What’s Hot This Week in the Future of Women’s Health
🔦In the Spotlight
European Femtech start-ups are having a record-breaking year, pulling in unprecedented venture capital as awareness and demand around women’s health surge. According to PitchBook, €339.4 million (about $366.3 million) has already flowed into 47 femtech deals this year, surpassing 2021’s peak of €325 million — and we still have nearly two months to go.
My Thoughts
While the total number of deals might end up slightly lower than last year, the closure of a mega-deal in the space signals confidence in the sector’s potential and a clear indicator that more funds are aligning with the future of healthcare solutions specifically designed for women, filling gaps long overdue for attention and capital.
Swiss Femtech Impli Partners with Bayer for Real-Time Hormone Monitoring. Bayer has partnered with Swiss femtech Impli to develop real-time hormone monitoring, aimed at improving fertility management and broader health insights. Impli, winner of a Bayer innovation challenge, will leverage Bayer’s resources to explore hormone monitoring’s impact across areas like sleep, stress, and cardiovascular health.
My Thoughts
This collaboration highlights a trend — the integration of personalized, continuous monitoring into women’s health. Real-time hormone tracking could redefine how we approach not only fertility but also complex areas like cardiovascular health and stress.
For investors, this partnership underscores the potential of femtech to drive solutions that meet both everyday health needs and broader preventative care. It’s a glimpse into the future of precision healthcare.
🗝️Why Invest in Women’s Health?
I had the opportunity this week to step back and see how our view on women’s health sits in the bigger picture through the recent roundtable put together by Pharma Almanac.
Biotech and pharma leaders were asked how the pharmaceutical industry is integrating innovations to enhance drug development and production. Faster and cheaper drug discovery, personalized medicine and sustainable biomanufacturing were some key themes emerging from that discussion.
💭My Thoughts
The convergence of AI, personalized therapies, and sustainable practices in pharma is creating a transformative opportunity in women’s health. These advancements promise not only faster and more precise treatments but also align with ethical and impact-driven investment, helping the drive towards setting a new standard for responsible innovation in healthcare.
Here are some more details of my key takeaways:
AI Revolutionizing Drug Discovery
Companies like Lonza and Kosten Digital are transforming R&D with AI, which enables faster and more cost-effective drug discovery by predicting molecule interactions and refining target identification. This AI-driven approach helps researchers tackle complex health challenges with new biomolecules and optimized processes.
Personalized Therapies for Complex Conditions
Companies such as Refeyn are leading the development of personalized therapies, tailoring treatments to individual genetic and molecular profiles. This shift toward precision medicine requires innovative analytics to handle small, complex sample volumes, enabling more effective and individualized care for diseases like cancer and autoimmune disorders.
Sustainable Biomanufacturing Practices
Companies like Gelteq are embracing sustainable practices by utilizing renewable resources and minimizing waste in production. This eco-friendly approach resonates with the increasing demand for ethical and responsible health solutions that reduce environmental impact.
I hope these posts give you some idea of what is happening in the space of the future of women’s health and the investment potential that exists in this theme.
I’d love to hear from you, as always, about what resonated with you, what you are thinking, and what may be inspiring you these days.
